Politicians Can’t Fool The People All the Time – John Dumelo

Newly-elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has commended the electoral maturity of Ghanaian voters. In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Dumelo attributed his success to his hard work and the growing discernment of voters.

Dumelo, who contested on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, defeated incumbent MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 47,560 votes to Alhassan’s 39,214.

He praised voters for prioritizing policies and meaningful representation over material inducements. “Judging from the results, you can’t fool the people all the time. If they don’t want to vote for you, they’ll collect your gifts and still not vote for you,” Dumelo emphasized.

Dumelo rejected the use of handouts and monetary incentives, describing such tactics as politically unethical. “You don’t fight crime with crime. I chose to focus on my constituents’ needs and interests, building a strong rapport and addressing their concerns.”

His victory, Dumelo believes, demonstrates voters’ growing sophistication and desire for effective representation.
