Tyrone Iras Marhguy Secures Full Scholarship To University of Pennsylvania

Tyrone Iras Marhguy, a remarkable Ghanaian teenager, has been awarded a full scholarship to pursue Computer Engineering at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, Class of 2028.

Tyrone’s journey to this achievement is a testament to his resilience and determination. His story, “The Tales from Achimota School,” began with a courageous fight for his right to education and self-expression. In 2021, Tyrone challenged Achimota School’s rules prohibiting his Rastafarian dreadlocks, sparking a national and global debate on individual rights and education. With the support of his family and community, Tyrone won a landmark court case, paving the way for inclusive education in Ghana.

Tyrone’s academic excellence and advocacy work caught the attention of top universities worldwide, earning him offers from the University of Pennsylvania, Duke, Williams, and Franklin & Marshall, totaling $1.4 million over four years.
