TGMA Clarifies Why King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ Was Not Nominated for Most Popular Song
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Board has explained why King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ was not nominated for Highlife Song and Most Popular Song categories in this year’s awards.
According to a press release signed by Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, the reason for the non-nomination is not due to alleged profanity in the song. Rather, it’s because each artist can only have one song per category, except for Best Collaboration, Best International Collaboration, and Best Music Video.
The Board stated that this rule prevents vote-splitting and ensures artists have a fair chance of winning. In King Paluta’s case, his songs “Aseda” and “Makoma” were considered, but “Aseda” was deemed more popular based on research, including streaming numbers and airplay from 175 radio stations. Therefore, “Aseda” was selected for the Highlife and Most Popular Song of the Year categories.
