Samira Bawumia Only Dresses To Fit A Married Muslim Woman When Elections Near- Awusi

Dr Mary Awusi, the Deputy Director of Interparty and CSOs Relations of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has openly criticised Samira Bawumia, the wife of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for her public appearance.
Dr. Awusi accused Mrs Bawumia of being inconsistent in her dressing, particularly highlighting a perceived shift in her attire during election seasons.
According to Dr. Awusi, Mrs. Bawumia tends to dress in a more conservative manner befitting a married Muslim woman during election campaigns.
However, after elections, her attire allegedly becomes less conservative.
Dr. Awusi, who herself is married to a Muslim man, emphasised that as a Muslim married woman, it is customary to cover oneself with a scarf, known in local Islamic parlance as ‘Mayafi’.
She criticised Mrs Bawumia for wearing dresses that, in her view, are un-Islamic.
The critique emerged in the context of Vice President Bawumia’s claim that his Muslim identity played a role in his selection as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer. Dr. Mary Awusi expressed her disagreement, asserting that no true Muslim woman who is married would dress in the manner she attributed to Mrs Bawumia.
Her comments were made during an appearance on The Citizen Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM.
