Mahama Urges Calm in Bawku: “Don’t Resort to Conflict”

John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has unequivocally condemned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for perpetuating conflict whenever they hold power. Citing historical precedents, Mahama noted that disturbances in Ghana often coincide with NPP governance.

“Regrettably, whenever Ghana’s peace is disrupted, it is invariably during an NPP administration,” Mahama stated during his tour to the Northern region on October 29, 2024.

In light of the renewed clashes in Bawku, resulting in loss of life and injuries, Mahama appealed to the residents to exercise restraint and patience. He cautioned against allowing themselves to be exploited by individuals seeking to fuel ethnic conflict for personal gain.

“I implore the people of Bawku and stakeholders to remain calm and composed. Do not succumb to provocation or resort to violence,” Mahama pleaded. “The NDC is committed to restoring peace in Bawku and its environs when we assume office.”

Mahama’s impassioned plea underscores his concern for the well-being of the Bawku community and his determination to address the underlying causes of the conflict.

Speaking to constituents in Saboba, Mahama emphasized:

– The need for peaceful coexistence
– The importance of resisting manipulation by sinister forces
– The NDC’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region

By urging calm and restraint, Mahama seeks to mitigate the escalating tensions in Bawku, ensuring a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
