I Had The Most Popular Song In 2015 -Mary Owusu

Renowned Accra-based Gospel singer, Mary Owusu, is optimistic about her prospects in the forthcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), despite being overlooked for nomination in her 12-year music career.

“I firmly believe that God’s timing is impeccable,” Mary asserted. “When my time arrives, God will bestow upon me the recognition I deserve. This year, I sense that it’s my turn, given the immense popularity of my 2015 song, ‘W’ owo Nkwa, Wowo Ade3′.”

Mary’s song, she noted, dominated radio and television airwaves, as well as church worship services, not only in Accra but also nationwide.

“If the VGMAs are truly based on popularity, I am confident of securing an award or more this year,” Mary stated, citing her extensive performances at various shows and churches across the country.

Should she emerge victorious, Mary expressed her gratitude, saying, “I will be overwhelmed with joy and thankfulness to God, acknowledging that it’s His divine will for me to receive this nomination and award.”

Mary’s excitement stems from the fact that this would be her first award or nomination in a storied 12-year music career, which has yielded three successful albums, including “Holy Ghost Fire” (2007), “Ahitophel Agyenatuo No Aye Kwa” (2012), and “Onyame Beye Ne Adwuma” (2015).

Reflecting on her lack of recognition, Mary attributed it to inadequate management during the release of her first two albums.

“Previously, I lacked professional guidance to submit my work for award consideration,” Mary revealed. “However, with my current album, my new management team is addressing this oversight.”

Mary also observed that the Ghanaian Gospel music industry has undergone significant improvements.

“The industry has evolved considerably, with enhanced structures and organization,” Mary noted. “This growth has created a more conducive environment for artists like myself to thrive.”

With renewed optimism, Mary looks forward to the VGMAs, eager to reap the rewards of her dedication and hard work

Mary is out with a brand new single ‘Divine Selection’, and it’s out on all major streaming platforms!
