Ghana Water Restores Water Supply To Tema
The Ghana Water Company Limited has begun treating and pumping water from the Kpong Treatment Plant to the Tema Booster Station after fixing weaker parts of the transmission pipeline.
Repair works were carried out on the 42-inch and 21-inch transmission pipeline, causing a temporary interruption in the water supply to the eastern part of Accra and Tema. However, treated water started flowing again on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the late hours. This affected approximately two million people in the area.
Last year in September, there was a similar shutdown and repair work at the Kpong Treatment Plant, which caused an interruption in the water supply.
The Chief Manager in Charge of Public Relations and Communications of the GWCL, Stanley Martey, stated that water supply was yet to improve since the transmission pipelines had dried up over the period.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the system will be able to stabilize today,” he mentioned in yesterday’s interview.
He urged customers who were still experiencing intermittent flow of water to report to the company’s district offices or use the GWL customer app for complaints.
