Ghanaian Rapper Edem Alleges 2015 VGMA Artiste of the Year Award Was Unjustly Bestowed

Renowned Ghanaian rapper, Edem Goget’em, has sparked controversy by claiming that he was robbed of the 2015 Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year title. In a Facebook post, Edem drew parallels between his situation and the recent Ballon d’Or snub of Vinicius Jr., lamenting what he perceives as an injustice.
Edem’s assertion comes amidst a list of formidable nominees for the 2015 Artiste of the Year category, including Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini. Notably, Stonebwoy emerged victorious, receiving three awards that night, alongside Sarkodie and Edem.
Edem’s critically acclaimed song “Koene” garnered multiple nominations, with the remix of “The One” earning him recognition in the Best Rapper category. Despite this, Edem feels overlooked for the top honor.
His Facebook post reads: “Why #BallondOr come dey behave like the way VGMA take do me 2015 Artist of the Year? This is a heinous crime!! A daylight robbery!! … Vinicius Jr is the REAL WINNER’?”
Edem’s statement has rekindled debates about the 2015 VGMA awards, with many questioning the voting process and criteria used to determine the winner.
Stonebwoy, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude and acknowledged his fellow nominees, stating, “I believe that the other artistes are happy I won…Behold how tall we have grown…This is well deserved.”
