Nollywood Star Queeneth Agbor Laments Over Nigerian Music Dominance in Ghana, Says ‘Ghanaians Do Better

Award-winning Nollywood actress, Queeneth Agbor, has expressed her disappointment and concern over the prevalence of Nigerian music in Ghanaian venues. According to Agbor, whenever she visits Ghana, she’s often greeted by the sounds of Nigerian songs, and she has to request Ghanaian music from DJs.
In a recent conversation she had with Beverly Afaglo. A Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Agbor revealed that she’s frequently dismayed by the dominance of Nigerian music in pubs, clubs, restaurant and etcetera “It’s sad that anytime I visit Ghana, all I hear is Nigerian music,” she said. “I have to plead with DJs,pub owners, restaurant owners, etcetera, to play Ghanaian songs. It’s like our own music is not good enough for our own people.”
Agbor finds this situation “sad” and believes it’s essential to promote Ghanaian music in its own country. Her statement, “Ghanaians do better,” suggests that she thinks Ghanaian music deserves more recognition and support. She emphasized that Ghana has a rich musical heritage and talented artists who deserve more attention and appreciation.
This sentiment has highlighted the ongoing debate about the balance between Nigerian and Ghanaian music in Ghana’s entertainment scene. Some argue that Nigerian music has become too dominant, overshadowing Ghanaian artists and their work. Others believe that music is universal and should be enjoyed regardless of nationality.
Agbor’s comments have sparked a conversation about the need for greater support and promotion of Ghanaian music and artists. Many have echoed her sentiments, calling for more efforts to showcase Ghanaian talent and culture in the entertainment industry.
