Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a scathing attack on former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of hypocrisy over the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Kumasi, Bawumia stated, “It’s astonishing that Mr. Mahama is now trying to claim credit for the Free SHS policy, when in fact, he vehemently opposed it during his tenure as President.”
Bawumia reminded the audience that Mahama had described the policy as “reckless” and “unachievable” during the 2016 election campaign. “How can he now turn around and claim to be a supporter of the policy?” Bawumia asked.
The Vice President emphasized that the Akufo-Addo government has successfully implemented the policy, benefiting over 1.5 million students, and will continue to expand and improve it.
Mahama’s camp has yet to respond to Bawumia’s accusations, but political analysts say this exchange highlights the intense rivalry between the two leaders ahead of the 2024 elections.
